The Thorsborne Trail is one of Australia’s most breath-taking multi-day hikes, stretching 32 kilometres along the eastern coast of Hinchinbrook Island, Queensland. This rugged and remote trek offers untouched wilderness, towering mountains, pristine beaches, and crystal-clear waterfalls, making it a bucket-list adventure for serious hikers.
The Thorsborne Trail is a challenging yet rewarding hike, typically completed in 3 to 5 days. Hikers traverse diverse terrain, including rainforest, coastal mangroves, rocky headlands, and secluded beaches. The trail provides incredible views of Mt. Bowen (1,121m), the highest peak on the island, as well as encounters with local wildlife such as cassowaries, dugongs, and crocodiles.
Due to its ecological significance, only 40 hikers are allowed on the trail at any given time. A permit is required from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), and camping is strictly limited to designated sites. Hikers must be self-sufficient, carrying their own food, water purification systems, and camping equipment.
EPIC North does not provide transfers to Hinchinbrook Island for hikers. Visitors must arrange their own boat or charter transport to the trailhead at Ramsay Bay (north) and their return pickup from George Point (south). Commercial ferry and charter operators from Cardwell and Lucinda offer these services.
If you're ready for an EPIC multi-day hike, ensure you have all necessary permits, transport, and supplies before setting off on the Thorsborne Trail. While we specialize in guided marine and fishing adventures, we do not offer hiking transfers to Hinchinbrook Island. For information on transport providers, visit the Queensland Parks and Wildlife website.
For those seeking guided tours of Hinchinbrook Island, Orpheus Island, and the Great Barrier Reef, EPIC North offers unforgettable boat tours, fishing charters, and island explorations. While we don’t provide Thorsborne Trail transfers, we can take you on other thrilling adventures in North Queensland’s stunning marine environments.
